The Nords have been recruiting stronger and stronger enemies, ranging from the stalwart Siege Masters to the barbaric Wolf Clan Warriors to the fierce Fire Jotnes.  In response to this, we have been training our soldiers to be stronger as well.  Many weeks were spent in the practice fields letting new recruits pound on them with wooden swords, but the results are indisputable: our soldiers have really learned how to take a hit. Our archers have also been training - Sentinels and Rangers couldn't quite keep up with the wardens, but they have improved their accuracy and power. Finally, the Legionnaires took some tips from the Master Peltasts and worked on their throwing arms.

The following classes have received a buff to Ironflesh:
+3 Ironflesh to RG
+2 Ironflesh to Legionnaire and Zweihander
+1 Ironflesh to Pavise Champion
+1 Ironflesh to Halberdier

The following classes have received a buff to Archery WPF:
+4 Archery to Ranger
+15 Archery to Sentinel

The following classes have received a buff to Power Throw:
+1 Power Throw to Legionnaire

  • Added missing textures for Black Steel Dagger.
  • Improved the reliability of the player report optional text.

  • With the double-kill problem solved, the early Nord victory and round reset problem has also been solved.
  • This time, the Heavy Sallet actually does have it's writing removed.
  • The friendly-fire system now deals up to 10% of your health instead of exactly 10% of your health.
Hopefully that takes care of everything for now. Thanks for your patience!

1.4.0 Client Release

Contents

  • Reload gear button
  • Friendly fire handling
  • Player report overhaul
  • Map updates
  • Miscellaneous
Reload gear button

The character screen has a new button - Reload.  Pressing the reload button causes your gear in-game to update with whatever you have equipped on the website.  No more having to rejoin or die to update your gear!  (Note: You do still need to respawn the items.  This makes sure you have the most up to date set of gear when you do.)

Friendly fire handling

The friendly fire hits are now handled by a custom system instead of the default Warband system.  This gives us better control over the damage reflected (now 10% of your health each hit) and lets us do some other interesting things.

Player report overhaul

The player report option now asks why you are reporting the player and lets you add more information.  When you submit the report, our admin team gets a notification with the player and server information as well as the reasons you provided.  No need to tab out to ask for an admin.

Map updates

No patch would be complete without a few map fixes...
  • Dills and Hills
  • Fortress Under Siege
  • Graubergen
  • Handes Retreat
  • Hypers Castle
  • Hypers Hell
  • King of the Hill
  • Kings Castleyard
  • Lake Town
  • Medieval Fields
  • Mountain Outpost
  • Offshore
  • Royal Observatory
  • Senuzgda Cavern
  • Swadian City
  • Swadian Folly
  • Swadian Mines
  • Swadian Night Raid
  • Swadian Outskirts
  • Swadian Overgrown
  • Swadian Village
  • The First Defence
  • The Forgotten Bay
We also have two new maps for standard rotation...
  • Nordic Village
  • Swadian Lighthouse
Miscellaneous
  • The Spear's overhead attack now deals pierce damage.
  • The Heavy Sallet's writing has been is supposed to have been erased. (Seems this is coming in the next bug fix.)
  • Mappers have a new scene prop - projectile_box_barrier.
  • Unnecessary menu items (single player items for instance) have been hidden in other languages as they have been in English.
  • Game modes are set differently in the configs.  One of the up-shots of this is the server list displays the actual game mode instead of the map twice.
  • One or two texture optimizations.
  • Again, many behind the scenes changes to the code which, if done properly, will never be noticed in-game.

Note: If you try to join a server without updating, your game will crash.

Enjoy!

  Quest Adjustments
Posted by: Kip - 30-11-2016, 11:00 PM - Forum: News & Updates - Replies (19)

Hello,

It has been a long time coming... many quest requirements and rewards have been adjusted to better match the changes NordInvasion has undergone over the years.

Along with changes to the quests themselves, the list of quests is now divided into sections for Beginner, Normal, Hard, Ragnarok, Cavalry, and Miscellaneous; all quest pages show the character's faction stats; and the quest details page has been tidied up slightly.

Let us know if you spot anything acting up. (Note: Quests whose requirements were reduced might very will be completed the next time you kill a random Nord.)

  Five Years of NordInvasion
Posted by: Kip - 23-11-2016, 07:58 AM - Forum: News & Updates - Replies (13)

Hello everyone,

This November, NordInvasion is now five years old!

We have come a long way from the early days when there were camps made of dep shields, no barrels or resurrection tomes, and mounted Nords were part of the standard game.  Wraiths had not been created yet, Hard mode was the top difficulty, and the one of the best barricades in the game was a pile of logs.  Base construction often limited not by how many people had barricades, but by how many barricades could be built without the server crashing.  There was no prep time between waves - once you killed the last bot, the next wave would spawn.  A few more features which did not exist yet include the mini-map, house crafted items, enemy shot-gun ranged, and to switch characters on the website, you had to log out and sign back in with your other characters' names.

We still have many ideas for new features and will continue to release them in updates when we can.  (We should have an update coming out in the coming weeks.)

To celebrate our fifth anniversary (and Thanksgiving in the U.S.), XP is 2.5 times the usual rates from now through the end of Wednesday, the 30th.

Enjoy!

I would also like to take this opportunity to make a small reminder that as a donation-run mod, your support is very important to us.  Funds for EU/NA have been running low.  Some recent donations have helped (thanks!) but if it has been a while since your last donation or you have never donated before, now would be a great time.  AU is also very low right now and without help, there will barely be enough to renew one server next month.

  • Bosses are marked on the mini-map again.

  1.3.0 Client Release

1.3.0 Client Release

Contents

  • New wave system.
  • Beginner mode rework.
  • Cavalry mode rework (Part 1).
  • Removal of Nord overlaps between most modes.
  • Added difficulty to Ragnarok.
  • Map updates.
  • Miscellaneous.
New wave system

You might recall the feedback thread from a couple months ago, Official Feedback - Number of Waves. Since then, we have been hard at work to move forward with that idea and with this update, all modes of NordInvasion are 15 waves long with spawns every third wave.

The reasoning for this change is all laid out in the feedback thread but the main points are...
  • People with less time have a better chance of being able to stick around for a full run.
  • Fewer waves seem like clones of earlier waves.
  • More maps can get played since each run takes less time.
  • With spawns every three waves, you don't have to wait so long after dying.
The waves are ordered as Mixed wave, Challenge wave, and Boss wave. As usual, respawning and gear replacement happen during the prep time right after the Boss wave.

With the time saved by removing extra bots, we can focus on making the remaining bots more interesting and difficult in the future.

Beginner mode rework

Beginner mode has been completely reworked to be easier (no more annoying polearms on wave 1) and more rewarding.

The current intention is to keep Beginner mode focused on making those first few level easier to get for new characters who can't always join in on a regular run. With that in mind, the bots are quite easy to work through for experienced players and hopefully not too boring for new recruits.

With the level cap still at 26, the amount of XP earned for each Nord is significantly higher. Material drops are planned but only the simplest ones since Beginner mode's purpose is to help with levelling, not to be a place to grind out materials.

The difficulty, XP, and drops are all something which will have to be adjusted over time since it is hard to judge how the mode will play out outside of controlled testing.

Cavalry mode rework (Part 1)

The number and arrangement of bots has been adjusted along with the shift to 15 waves.

A minimum level of 27 has also been introduced and the max number of players per server has been dropped to 8.

This is only the first step in the rework of Cavalry mode and more changes can be expected soon.

Removal of Nord overlaps between most modes

Before this update, there were quite a few bots in multiple modes of NordInvasion. Normal and Hard mode each had bots from the next highest mode and half of Beginner mode was a clone of Normal. This has all been changed and nearly all the duplicates have been removed. Each mode has its own bots except for Cavalry since it spans a range of difficulties.

Added difficulty to Ragnarok

Ragnarok difficulty has been increased slightly. Nothing too drastic; just crushthrough weapons on a few challenge waves and a whole new final challenge wave before Odin.

It should be noted that the crushthrough does not stun the player and the damage inflicted is a work in progress. Once we see how this affects real runs, we can start tuning the difficulty better and will continue adding new challenges in the future.

Map updates

No patch would be complete without a few map fixes...
  • Ancient Bastion
  • Battle of Praven
  • Coastal Raid
  • Fortress Under Siege
  • Graubergen
  • Offshore
  • Port Assault
  • Praven
  • Senuzgda Cavern
  • Swadian Citadel
  • Swadian Folly
  • Swadian Hamlet
  • Swadian Night Raid
  • The First Defence
  • Winters Respite
  • Yalen Retreat
Miscellaneous
  • Prep time on spawn waves now shows you can replace items.
  • When you win the round, the game should actually tell you that.
  • Assassins are back from their vacation in Wercheg. Whether they are feeling lazy or over-zealous is yet to be seen.
  • Equipment and XP adjustments scattered across modes where Nords were moved to earlier and later waves.
  • Many, many textures have been tuned to look better from a distance.
  • Elite Eastern Mercenaries are borrowing other horses until the invisibility curse on their old ones can be lifted.
  • A whole lot of back-end changes to make our dev lives easier.

Thanks to everyone who helped plan out the changes and spent countless hours testing everything to ensure as few bugs get through as possible.

Enjoy!
