Windows 10(Fixed)
#1
I upgraded yesterday and everything was fine, except Warband. I realized that the sound in game became terrible with all that sizzling whizzing voices. It sounds like a very low quality speaker.

And this only happens in Warband. All other games and videos are fine. So should I go back to Windows 8.1?

Try this:
If you go to This PC/Documents/Mount&Blade Warband there should be a file named rgl_config.txt, open that and scroll all the way down to the bottom to use_winmm_audio if it is set to 1, change it to 0 and then save.

If it doesn't help, get the value back to 1. And then check your audio driver (be sure the latest version is installed, especially if you use untegrated platform from AMD), do not use auto-updater or auto-check tool. Just download the latest drivers pack and install.

It's already 1 and I have the latest version. There is still same problem.

No it doesn't work. Setting it to 0 just mutes.

Warband works on all three of the Windows 10 computers I've tried it on.

The option Bobo referred to is set to 0 on both my desktop and laptop.  I would suggest renaming that file to reset it and see what happens.  (You could delete it but renaming it would give you a backup if you wish to revert.)

If you are using Steam, have you tried verifying your local game cache?

Are any other games exhibiting similar audio issues?

do you mean it mutes music or all sounds? I think WinMM should actually be used to play background music only.

The technology is long time obsolete but M&B is so old by now... Many ppl currently have sound issues in old games under Win10 due to incompatibility of the winmm library that belongs to the game (not the system).

Omg that worked! Renaming the file solved the problem. Thanks so much Kip Smile and thank you Bobo for your suggestions.
