As not very experienced pikeman I noticed that some MPs are wearing boots. Is it really worth it? Or they wear them only when cading? Enlighten me please.

Most find it not worthy and wear none as they rarly get shot in the feet and prefer being ligher in general. I personally wear them cause i find wearing none looks dumb 
And pikeman's sets aren't as heavy for that 1+ weight of boots to make much difference anyways. So if you DO get shot in your feet at some point it at least makes a difference then and maybe saves your life.
