I think banks just nailed it down pretty good. I say spears for heavy armor, axes for light armor/shields.

Jarids, in fact, pass right through most shields akin to bolts shot from powerful xbows.

Spears has pierce damage and axe has cut. So imo spears

Spears: Accuracy, pierce damage, faster projectiles
Axes: Swag. Lots and lots of swag.

Spears do pierce damage. Axes do cut. If you are past the skirmisher wave I would suggest spears or any other piercing weapon
