There may be a slight bug in the shared loot (hope people don't shoot me for this one). I think you get double XP/gold when you make the kill.
For example, if I get off of my pony and slash it, I get 1 melee XP and no gold, but I also get 1 assist XP and no gold. It seems to work that way when there is just one enemy in the immediate area as well. The rest of time, values are scrolling so fast I can't tell.
I think the shared gold/loot is great though -- definitely seems to encourage more team playing.

Killer gets double exp and gold, but only one chance on the root roll like everyone else.
