would be great for making the game less of a kytefest and wouldnt be to overpowered unless the ai soldiers are heavily geared and such

No, this has been discussed on various other threads. The dev team have attempted using AI friendlies and they are thicker than 2 planks of wood with cement stuck between. They are far more likely to cause harm than any form of aid.
