What do you guys reckon?
Personally I'm quite liking the ashwood pike. It's got enough reach to stab through a shield wall, and is still viable at medium range. It is however rather useless at close quarters, and lacks the 'punch' of some slashing polearms.

It depends what you want to do. For slashing a slashy polearm is by far better. But for support and for over the slashers attack stabby would be better. I would personally grab a weapon that can do both and some throwing.

The up-down stab with a weapon like the sarissa and pike is very useful when you master it, it even lets you stab someone in front of the shielder while you're behind.

I agree. If your good with ashwood pike save for sarissa. Its just plain out better.

It depends on the situation, really. Whenever I'm on a hard server, I pick a Polehammer (invaluable at followers) and a Pike, with 1 stack of Jarids. The combination makes you one of the best slashers around (as long as the shieldwall holds, you can't do crap with em alone) with some very cheap weapons.
On Normal, I use 2 stacks of Jarids and a German Poleaxe, which is better suited for soloing.

I have german poleaxe and trowing spears so I kill some foes form distance and finish them whit my mele which can stab and slash also have a lot reach.
