If your shielding correctly and with the right gear, you won't really need body armor as much. Head armor is useful against enemies that can break blocks though [eg. Fions with the giant hammers] and against headshots from Rangers.

Think about this: what stat does a RG have that is the highest in the game of any class? Now what single piece gear would take full advantage of that stat?

If you don't have much gold, then I suggest you to buy these stuff for RG:
Weapons: Vengeance + Defender Shield
Head Armor: Visored Salet/Pigface Klappvisor/Sugarloaf Helmet/Hornskull
Body Armor: Swadian Heavy Lamellar Armour
Hand Armor: Plate Mittens
Foot Armor: Iron Greaves (Marketplace)

Does that sound good?

Go for body armor first after the Defender Shield. Take a Grinder Helm till you have a better one
