I have the same problem. I installed the new patch from a zip file few hours ago and just kept getting stuck on welcoming message when I joined a server. After like a minute I was getting kicked (pretty sure that wasn't an admin).

We've made some adjustments to the launcher's self-updating function. Please try opening the launcher again and it should prompt you to download the update.
