The Infantry Problem - Sir Baron - 02-12-2017 This is for the poll RE: The Infantry Problem - Sir Baron - 02-12-2017 Regading inf being underpowered if you go to page 1 i think we said it isn't underpowered, but just too specialied in its roles to the extent it's not as fun or versatile. So without making it OP we were looking for ways to improve other aspects of it like more hp. The problem may come from inf being so diverse that it cant truly excel at the one main thing Inf has over the other 3 classes that being armour. If you want Inf to get better you should expect one of the + of inf to be nerfed. If a change was to be made to each class so Inf is more useful I guess I would do something on the lines of this. Inf - I can imagine 2h skill getting a nerf to get higher stats in armour or health or some other place. Pike - More of a slashing class than it is atm by taking away from throwing skill or just maybe ammo for throwing. Sniper - Bow's have lower flight speed for higher normal speed/damage. Xbow - Just about the same but maybe with more flight speed. What I'm saying is
RE: The Infantry Problem - TerrorBite - 02-12-2017 well if we're talking about semantics then sure, inf are very versatile, just bad at lots of thing.. oh wait if we start taking this into consideration they're still not as versatile as the others... you say inf can: shield - so can everyone else (not necessarily lasting ages but lasting long enough til a certain time) slash - so can every one else tank - if you try tanking as inf you die, even in 1 hit throw/xbow - so can everyone else, doing a much better job what they cant do that just about everyone else can: outrun nords - survival perspective use projectiles at a proper distance kite - offensive perspective use distance based melee (using speed to go in and out of melee combat) Now regarding what is actually done 'well': inf shield, slash others: shoot, slash, kite the thing is the mixture of shooting and kiting allows for much more versatility in combat than shielding and slightly superior slashing. Having a shield and armour is nice in surviving support roles like healing, but you dont need high enough shielding skill if you can just outrun the nords instead. We only see the inf healing because everyone else has something better to do. RE: The Infantry Problem - oracolus - 02-12-2017 To my mind it seems that wall cades have been directing runs into a more linear pattern. Build a cade, Place the Archers and just reap the harvest. Personally i think that infantry in general is still a viable choice, but its in these types of patterns that the infantry loses some of its usage. I think that we should either make the SHC a more obtainable item or just rethink the whole wall cade idea instead. (Perhaps make it shorter? even though its called "Wall" cade) I saw earlier that someone wanted holes in the walls, but that would make the infantry even more useless as the archers would simply snipe the nords while behind relative safety. RE: The Infantry Problem - Lophorius - 02-12-2017 remove wall cades and replace them by something else, like e.g. the smithy to improve items if you really want to make inf more viable. and as terror already mentioned, your assumption that inf is there to tank is (sadly) only appliable in normal or hard mode (if you've got good equipment) , however you're dead pretty quickly in rag no matter how many red armour pieces you got also, make the 1h weapons for inf longer. RE: The Infantry Problem - Rezev - 02-12-2017 There is also small problem with shield's: Just look at image, as you can see RSKS is about 1m to craft/buy, its usable by sharpshoter but stats and price are meh. My idea is to lower RSKS price to 300-400 k, lower it's HP to 1100, and unlock it for Infantry (people with t4 would be able to get "decent" shield for low price). About Defender Shield, rise price to ~800k and boost it's HP to 1250 (keep it for PC/RG only). An argument could be made to lock the Reinforced Kite Shield, Swadian Half-Board Shield, Tower Shield to Pc as they probs the only Hero that is using them just about. Altho this has been tried in the past and did not work but it's been about a year or 2 so never know what the dev's think now. |
