It's based on the Arma 3 engine iirc. I am not sure, but the new major features are the looting system, inventory, graphics and zombies i believe...

yeah .. but I think Arma is from Bohemia Activison and DayZ too ... just another Designer ( Dean Hall ) so its possible with the arma 3 engine ... 8)

It's not the arma 3 engine.
It's a customised version of their helicopter sim engine afaik.
It's pretty much Dayz's own engine, arma 3 will be slightly different.

Correct. It's a heavily modified version of the Take On Helicopters engine.
But as has also been mentioned, it's modified so heavily it might as well be called an almost brand new engine.
