I would never respec a hero because leveling is not difficult, only time consuming. Also, the time spent leveling is less than the time spent farming 750k (lucky drops notwithstanding).
Anyway, I prefer Chosen Marksman because I already have a Royal Guard and the flexibility of roles was not worth it to me as a min/maxer. Going with that theme, I mostly aim to play Ragnarok, prefer to upgrade only if the upgrade is at least two tiers, since I feel the diminishing returns are not worth the investment. With that in mind, I would get:
Crossed (if you don't have this already)
Tome / Barrel + SHC
Siege Helmet / Arming Helmet / Hollowed Keeper
Legendary crossbow (Bolt Tosser / Eagle Crossbow / Penetrator / Dead Shot)
Master Surgeon's Kits (only if medic obviously)
Guardian Armor
Going with the theme of maximizing strengths, you can prioritize the above over...
* a one-hander: outside of Normal mode it's mostly used for parrying and you can pick up any weapon from the ground anyway
* bolts: get someone to fire you one, or wait for a crossbowman to miss
* shield: not needed if you're a chosen
