It would be substantially harder to trade your way up, duping people into selling things at lower prices and buying at higher (because not many people want the lower tier items enough to buy at any cost, those people need money too).

If you could just get a ton of material drops without spending 1000 hours, you could easily make a profiy being the go-to person for that material. Think of WoW and harvesting materials like minerals to sell on auction hall.

NI has no form of harvesting, so we cant use the economy  to work our way up. We must grind our way up to having multiple legendaries or capital. Then use the economy to trade our way higher.

Hmm , actually I find it easy to trade with items that are around 300-500k but that is my opinion.

Apparently grinding for materials and gold in game isn't harvesting.

So what i'm taking from this is you don't want to actually spend time on playing the game, but you'd gladly spend time "harvesting" materials.

Not really a discussion, just people complaining and speaking of things they have no real knowledge of.

Grinding for materials and gold is not profitable. Unless you are extremely lucky, you will never produce enough materials to make a profit, because you know, you have to level and get equipment etc. Having a way to harvest is about circumventing having to spend 6000 hours to make profit.

The time or labor spent to "harvest" or otherwise produce account locked materials would be something you do already (play the game).
So on top of RANDOM loot, you have GUARANTEED materials that you produce in order to sell. Thus, producing a profit.

Eeeh Material drops are free cash? So a profit..

I don't get it why people dont want to play this game properly and grind your gear together..

as an example, I had to grind 1.5 months for my tome. I played a few hours a day and bought/looted lumps/waters, till I got the amount that was necessary for my tome. And hell was I proud of what I achieved.

I dislike grinding completely, but that doesn't mean I don't want to do it. I just want an actual reason to do it. (Crafting).

Drops are free money, until you realize that you want to craft something, like your tome. Unless you plan on flat out buying absolutely everything in-game, in which case, you will be paying using only gold, which as you reach the higher market (legendaries), wont work as well.

The legendaries market doesn't normally go for gold entirely, and if it does, the gold value is usually above the price of the item if you were to trade for 1 or more items which that person wanted. (Wasted profit).

That is why, in every thread, people write cash along with the other items they prefer to get.

People always prefer cash instead of crappy items they have to sell again.

Where do you think literally all of the ni gold came from?

Do crafted items not retain value? Can tomes not be traded for legendaries?

Yes it's called convenience and there's multinational billion dollar companions irl based off of it...though pure gold is more convenient than most things, I don't know where you're getting this "usually" concept from when most people prefer pure cash.
