This idea might seem bad for some people, and interesting for others, so here it is:
Recruits should be limited to 10 armor items and weapons should do up to 20(?) damage
Make it quicker for recruits to go to the next class
Archers go up to 15 armor items
Infantry get 20 armor items
Cavalry get 15-20 armor items
Long bowmen get mostly a great upgrade in damage
Heavy Infantry should have heavier armor (30 armor?) and an increase in damage
Mounted Soldiers should get better horses and damage
Heavy Longbowman would get a balance of more armor and damage
Sergeants get more armor (40-50?)
Heavy Calvalry also get better horses and armor
Snipers would be mostly damage
Commandos would also have mostly damage
Knights should just be giant tanks basically
So tell me what you think
