Map Voting v2
#1
I know that there was a discussion on this topic, and in the end, some form of map change was to be introduced.

Thank you for your suggestion."

I was away for a few years, and I'm aware of that, but can we please have some form of map changing?

I understand the argument about boredom—playing the same map over and over—but hey, we're here for fun. If the majority of the server wants to change the map, let it happen. Obviously, you can regulate it, like not allowing the same map twice in a row or setting other rules.

Apart from that, I know you guys (devs) have lives outside the game. If that's the case, can you give the admins the green light to change maps if the vast majority wants it? It’s a band-aid solution, but it’s better than playing Mountain Pass.

I think it would be fun to have this implented. Too many times entire servers just empty because the map it went to wasn't enjoyed by the majority of the server. I do think it might need some tweaking on event servers where the house leaders have set a fixed rotation.

Funnily enough, the best argument that you could maybe make for why this would not just be good but a needed thing was Au servers when we had them

When you only have 1 or 2 servers and from memory they used to reset or something to the exact same map every day

This point is basically no longer valid as you quite literally don't have much options in map variety

While the idea of a map voting system sounds great in theory, implementing it would require an actual game update, which is unfortunately not feasible. Given the current state of development, such a feature is highly unlikely to happen.

Quantity does not equal quality.

In our understanding, the number of playable options may be lower, but that does not necessarily mean that some of them are more likable. We're still playing maps that are generally less enjoyed by the community, and those tend to kill hard/rag runs.

That's not really my point I use to kite quite a lot and with only a few maps you can realistically kite on.. ehh it involved getting an admin to change the difficulty/map when you only have 1 or 2 servers and neither are set to Rag etc

What makes a map good is fairly subjective. Yes some are clearly more popular for speed or efficiency but you aren't going to win on that argument alone for why we need this feature. Hence this clearly is something that could have been implemented already but it hasn't has it. This mod is over 10 years old I don't think they are magical going to flip their stance on map design, kiting, etc..

If something like this actually made it so an admin in those times wasn't needed that's not much more work to implement realistically.

Have the ability to not just vote on what map but game mode itself. Then next map it resets back to its default so no matter what a normal server isn't permanently Rag. In the very same update I'm very much for removing the level cap on difficulties I don't think it's needed

If a bunch of tr2 or tr3 people think they can play rag why not. This acts as an indirect nerf to teams as well as you need to carry dead weight but they get rewarded more with better xp. This is a team game after all be crazy if more communication was needed for what class and what level you are bringing in

First of all, it's very hard to understand what you mean.

I don't need to win any argument. It has already been said that some form of map change or vote would be implemented, as I stated in my post.

Au when running only has 1 or 2 servers. The 1 server or 2 are set to Normal and something else usually given that is what most people play. Upon request you are allowed to ask an admin to change a server to a different game mode. e.g Rag or Cav and in those times ive been able to ask for any map ive wanted

That is not something that should be an Admins job.

There's a difference between saying yes or no to something vs bumping up in priority. Many things over the years have been actually given the yes for this mod that we havnet seen in game.

The dev team would have a list of things they want to do with this mod and I highly doubt map voting is at the top. Arguments for why something should Implemented still matter in the development stage. It could be the difference between seeing it to tomorrow vs 10 years from now or maybe never seeing it at all.
