Maybe this is already in the works, but in case it isn't...
I'd like to suggest that house leaders/captains be able to send house-wide messages, and alert members that the MOTD has been updated. This is to solve the problem of the MOTD being completely pointless.
I don't know about other players, but I personally wouldn't look at the MOTD at all if I were a normal house member. A related point: there is no incentive for normal members to click on the Houses tab either, making it even less likely that they will see the MOTD. The lack of formatting options doesn't help either.
If anybody has any related suggestions, it'd be nice to see them posted here.

I like this idea very much, many of VM's members don't know our schedule, or anything else that is going on because they don't check out the forums enough.

Oooh this sounds like a great idea
I've made a Steam group for my House and added a bunch of players, but not everybody has Steam, so communicating better through the main website would be a big plus.
Maybe it could just be made to appear like the typical notifications appear (ex. "You just completed a quest!").

That's exactly what I had in mind when posting this. With that, members would also see the message in-game.
