I've returned to the game after a couple of years, I never got very far but I noticed there is no AU hard server. I've tried to put up with the lag but it's really annoying.
Will there ever be an AU hard server, and if so does somebody have to pay to host the server?

the hosting price is too much for not enough Au people playing/donating

Hey, there may one day be an AU hard server, but with the lack of AU players and donations for a while, they dropped it down to 1 server. If we get more AU players there is a chance that we may get a hard server again

the problem with the AU servers and the AU part of the community have for quite some time been, that they expected to get everything, but yet didnt want to give anything, hence is why the aussie servers are also on a different bill from the rest of the NI servers, you could always try and ask nobel or a dev to changing the current server, or ask him to open up another, but the main problem is that when the AU players doesnt wanna pay for the servers, the servers go down, so because the AU ppl couldnt keep 2 servers up, i think it went down to 1 server atleast until theres an improvement in the stability of the AU server

the price is also like 3 times the cost of every other server

Couldn't you guys trial having a normal and a hard server for the Aussies?
What if you took down a couple of the abandoned servers that nobody ever plays on. It seems wasteful to have so many servers that are always empty.

It's not some simple switched that is flipped. The difference in ping comes from the server being hosted in a different area. Hosting in a different region probably changes pricing as well

Precisely. If you want AU server it must be hosted in Asia-Pacific region to keep the ping reasonably low. So even if there are EU servers that could atm be used for something else it is no solution to simply change a name of one of them to AU instead of EU. It still remains in Germany, so the ping from AU would be over 300...

Yup. it simply requires some donations to cover the costs. Those are not significant amounts, like Kip wrote in the abovementioned thread, few bucks per month from like 10 ppl would do.
