War Bolts

Well, it might not be huge problem at all, but war bolts 'arrowhead?' (don't know how to call this bolt part in English) look just strange:

I think that with this strange type of 'arrowhead' they should be able to stun or knock down enemies; or just change it to normal one, like other bolts look. Big Grin

These types of arrowheads / bolt heads are called splayed heads and are used for shooting birds, or game.

The shape allows the bolt to severely damage or cut off a wing, or if it hits the main body it will induce a massive cut and drag the bird down with the arrow / bolts weight, both making the bird unable to fly. Made it easier to hunt birds, really.

Not sure how effective it would be against people, though. Probably still hurts.

Be able to knock down enemies / stun them at ~50k to 100k? No.

Considering the bolt model doesn't really have any real issue besides "looking weird", I don't think they need to be changed.

But still, If they were used to shoot birds (using bow/crossbow and this type of arrowhead to stun them), they are not much effective against people (ofc. they might break some bones, and hurt a lot).
If stun or knock down is too much for cheap bolts, what about few points slow down to enemy? People would choose Bronze Bolts anyway becouse of higer damage, so it won't be so huge addition for War Bolts.

I'm sure they would look better with normal arrowhead. But this is just my opinion Big Grin

EDIT:
I noticed that this look of War Bolts which I mentioned in my topic is called "crusade_bolt_heavy".

But, "crusade_bolt" looks like:

In my opinion much better look Big Grin
Is it very hard to replace "crusade_bolt_heavy" with "crusade_bolt" Huh

They would finally look like real deadly medieval ammo, not like arrows used to hunt birds Smile

The bolts mentioned (crusade_bolt) are already used? I can't re-purpose models that are already in use and also don't need a replacement. The model is used by Hunting Bolts.

I don't know where you're getting the idea that the bolts are blunt, because they're not. They have an edge, and they do pierce. They're just wide at the sides, so it does more of a cut than a pierce in real life.

http://puu.sh/v2KD5/5c552a90da.jpg - this is the bolt from the side. Ends in a flat edge that helps greatly with cutting instead of piercing.

Fanned / splayed bolt heads like this are better at punching through leather and cloth rather than metal armor. If there was a way to differentiate between cloth / leather and metal armor in Warband in the code, I would definitely make use of this bolt's shape to do more damage to cloth / leather targets rather than metal targets. But alas, it is not so.

The bolt looks fine. It functions fine in real life too. It was used for killing birds but it can also be used for killing people.
