It's not the maps fault necessarily , a tome and some barrels and you should be ashamed if you don't make it to Odin as it stands

The old maps were hard because we weren't decked out, and maybe not as many easily grindable areas.

Weird to say but i actually agree with Jarold (everyone hates Jarold). There are 15-20 people that can spawn in great items to help and carry people to get far within the game. (Good Slashing weapons, Royal Shields, Heavy Cades, Barrels and Tomes). Without Barrels we would find a lot more people dieing at Thor let alone Odin. If i have a resurrection Tome equipped i find it getting used 10-30 times a game just to resurrect people( hence people with tomes starting to hate them). The only map that i see as far to easy is FUS, just as you can put normal cades on the stairs and the Nords only hit them half the time. I find the public servers that go far are the ones that will have 3-4 UK,VLKA or SK players guiding the team.

The hate Jarold thing was only a joke. Jarold is correct on his point.

Additionally, the state of the game has changed. Shields were buffed greatly along with the introduction of maps with more chokepoints. The major turning point was probably the introduction of Great Hall, which also came about around the same time as shield repairs, the nerfing of Valkryie and Jotne javelins and the shield & barricade buff. Instead of having to constantly pick up new huscarl shields in the middle of waves, players just needed to hold onto their storebought shields and repair them at the end of waves.

Players have also become a lot more well-equipped and well-leveled. It's not rare to have multiple level 52 characters. Nowadays, the playerbase is more receptive of teamwork based initiatives, but this wasn't necessarily the case during earlier versions of the game. Old maps were not only difficult because of our lack of gear, they were difficult due to the mindset of the players, as well as glitches and imbalances of the bots.

Also enemy cav were a nightmare for infantry D: (except if they stacked themselves up nicely Tongue)

Map change is not always for the best, a lot of people used to moan about Great hall.  At the time it was most popular map, ie people would jump server to play it. 
Its been changed now but ask your self is it better.........I think not!!!!

And if you need a challenge try playing overgrown solo, furthest I got so far is 1 wave past pikeman on normal and tricksters on hard.
