Revert Animation Changes
#11
Donnu what it's all about, i'm fine with these Animations, don't have any probs with the One Hand Stab, i like it and didn't feel like beeing ghost-stabed by nords or any other probs. It's fine.

Illogically slow Two Hand Slash? Well, the way how the chars are holding their 2h weapons, you know, hands at the really buttom of the handle... the lever Act is working against you if you try to slash that way wich makes the whole thing quite slow and exhausting, i think the slow animation tries it's best to represent these circumstances. You actually can try this yourself if you got a Sledgehammer at home and hold it like the Chars trying to get a quick slash out of it.

I am pretty happy with the weapon animation atm.
I'd rather like to see bugging healing animations fixed if that's possible.

It would actually cost more energy to keep the weapon at a slow speed like in the current animation. The center of gravity of the weapon is closer to the sharp end of the weapon (or heavy end with a sledgehammer), so if you arc the weapon from over your head, gravity would actually speed the weapon up, resulting in a fastmoving weapon. Of course, the preparation to slashing should be rather slow, like you said, because you're holding the weapon at the end, but as soon as you swing the weapon down, it'll pick up a lot of speed, especially heavy weapons like a sledgehammer.

Also, as your weapon speeds up in the act downwards, the control over the weapon gets less, because it's moving faster, and it's quite hard to restrain a weapon moving down fast. So stopping the weapon like it's done with this animation (about halfway through the swing) would cost you even more energy. Once the weapon has picked up the speed using gravity, you'll want to use that speed to cleave your enemy in two, instead of stopping after 10cm of enemy.
Those are a few of the reasone why I'd like to see this animation changed . But thanks for your input Wink

Hmhh yeaah if you want to keep it really real you need a 2-phase slash animation,
somewaht slow for  top of weapon behind head till top of weapon above head and a fast downstrike animation.

But that means you need an Animation with two different Speed types or a non linear change of speed... I could imagine thats not that easily done and therefore I'd rahter like seeing the dev getting some more Crossbow-dude equip Tongue or a new type of Quest ready then fighting on a new - but more realistic animation.

I don't wanted to say the chars are holding their weapons 'wrong', it's more exhausting to get thing moving but outcome is maximised that way as Maroon said.
Although this Animation could be changed for some more realistc looks too. Static hold for ready a slash: One Hand down at the Bottom of Handel, other Hand somwhere in the middel (for hammers) or above the Guard of a 2h Sword (Thats why most huge 2h sword have a little piece of leather wrapped around the balde above the guard (or some extra handle with an extra guard) and a long handle but I guess you all know), when it comes to the strike the Hand in the Middel of handle slips down to the bottom to maximise the power outcome as descripted.

But... as i said before, I think changing / developing animations is somewhat the most work-intensive part for Games and i'd wish myself seeing more Gameplay changes then polishing Animations (If you tear it to the ground... NI for high end lvl players atm is something like Pokemon, but instead of Pokemon you're collecting Legendaries till you have 'em all :S ). And therefor I'm fine with current Animations.

Unless Devs are Animation-Wizards and it's a 5-minutes thing for them to get this ideas ready. Or maybe some White-Knight Animator outside the NI - Dev Team reads this and starts working on this. That'd be great of course.

I think it took papa lazarou months to make his changes, so it's not really a 5 min job...

Although it sure would be fun, I know that new animations are very hard and time-consuming to make, so my suggestion here is to just switch back to the default animation, at least for the stab, and preferably also for the 2 handed overhead. I don't think that would take too much time, would it? :/
