my best friend is about 28 years old and has been playing all of them since yellow. He literally owns all of the pokemon, owns every single game including white and black just to make sure he owns every last pokemon ever. He has a ton of level 100 pokemon and has found a handful of shiny pokemon as well.
You friend has achieved that which I aspire to achieve. I've been playing since blue and own at least one game from every gen, except black and white.

Ya he owns all of the strategy guide books for all the games too and owns all the systems; 2 3DS's just to trade for himself. I watched him play countless matches on that pokemon game on the wii that lets you take your pokemon from all of your past games and fight against people against the internet.
I never saw him lose a match, apparently the strategy he uses is banned in official tournaments. I forget the name of the pokemon, maybe darkrai or something like that, point is it can put everyone to sleep and has really high speed so it almost always gets to attack first, then he uses another pokemon, I think one of the legendary ones, idk but it uses dream eater which does stupid amounts of damage and doesn't wake them up. It's sad really and I can see why they don't allow that in official tournaments and why he stopped playing against people. lol
I liked pokemon as a kid, and loved the card game but there are way better games out there to play. You want an awesome handheld game? Monster Hunter Freedom Unite or Final Fantasy Tactics A2 are both amazing choices that will suck hundreds of hours from your life. lol
