what is the best armour

Objectively speaking, the best armor is the one with the highest armor values. Currently, the best known armors are defender armor (commando only iirc) and imperial armor (RG only). The best armor in the game can't protect an idiot.

More subjectively, if you want to look good I'd go for Swadian Halfplate or the Imperial Armor (red or blue). As we all know, looking good is half the battle.
