As I say, 6 - 12 is overkill, it's very expensive to level. Your best bet is just to slog it out and gather most of the materials in-game yourself.
When you hit 8 you can atleast make Black Steel, so keep any steel you make, because it ends up being your main craft until level 12
Then you can use Hard mode materials so it goes pretty quick.
