I think we should respect the Devs' wishes to not disclose the exact mechanics of the loot system. Hounding them about it doesn't help. For me it's enough to know that there is nothing one can do to influence your own chance and it's purely random.
Out of curiosity, do you guys keep statistics on how often drops occur and how they are distributed across how many players (and how active those players are)? I think it would make some people feel better about the current system if someone could reassure them that the various cases of "never looting vs. looting multiple times" are just normal statistical outliers and not a bug in the code.
