Anyone else think these hired assassins are annoying?

I agree that they are slightly annoying. But the assassins seem to keep people on their toes. From a design perspective, they make it more risky to run off and fight on your own, thus encouraging us to stay with the group. That seems to be the idea behind the assassins. I may be wrong.
