Long Arming Sword does not generate xp

I've noticed over the past few games playing with my new heavy crossbowman that the long arming sword does not seem to generate melee or assist xp when I kill someone with it. I have not verified if it is only failing to announce the XP or if I am getting no xp from it at all though.
