If you really want this thing to be rare, even 1m xp in melee and range wouldn't be enough.

Over time they would become common, and everyone would have this class (inevitable with pretty much any constraint).

Pretty sure a few players have 1m xp in range and melee already, I personally have 940k melee and 630k range (and at one point had 2.7m assist xp, god knows how much since then [turned to cash]) in my main and over a million melee in my alt.

At current rates it is possible to get ~50k melee or range xp in a day from hard mode, even more if you grind it religiously.

Therefore you could link it with other things, like having to have completed Legacy of a hero + 1.5m+ xp in each.

Ofcourse over time it would still become common, but for quite some time, it could be considered rare.

For example

Cavalry when it first started out, was meant to be rare and only the devoted would be able too.

So it was given a 0.2xp multiplier for assist, and very very high xp requirements. (was 80k at first for knight, before all requirements were doubled, and before hardmode and with normal xp being much lower.)

So while the first commandos started to appear, there was not a knight to be seen, just a few heavy cavalry (tier 3).

Months later, one person managed to get to a knight before the xp reqs were doubled, then I managed to become second much later reaching the 160kxp goal.

So for many months Cav were almost mythical, knights extremely OP, able to reach waves no other class could and they did it alone.

After awhile they became much more common place. So despite original intentions, over time, they became common and lost their unique appeal and instead gained hatred for soloing waves while everyone else had to wait in spec.
