Yeah but you can give special items to each hero class, as it's already going to be done (e.g. special shields for Royal guards).
Zweihanders already have faster slashing speed (in addition to additional damage with 2h) due to +40 2handed proficiency.
Chosen Marksmen already have faster reloading speed (in addition to better accuracy) due to + 30 crossbow proficiency.
But hero classes can be given more specificities, such as more athletics for Rangers (in addition to ironflesh bonus) whereas Wardens have more Archery and ironflesh penalty ; or more athletics for zweihanders and duelist and more ironflesh for royal guards, etc.
This could be a good thing, because at the moment, different hero classes are quite similar
