Yes, this feature was really useful and it's the reason why I didn't change the theme I was using for so long. Aside from the default theme, none of the other themes seem to have it.

jup, top right corner , choose a different colouring foe the text. It is hard to read

could there be a way to disable the "you have a new message" feature it kind of gets annoying when viewing the forums.
