I was not naming it ad hominem to try to weaken your argument. You have a more direct way of arguing than I do, and I apologize if I overreacted to it. I would, however, like it if you could refrain from statements like "maybe this discussion isn't for you.".

All that aside, I'd like to see your thoughts about what I actually said in my post. Why do you feel two handed weapons outclass polearms?

In my experience one of the most noticeable advantages of polearms is length.  Being able to line up behind the slashing Commandos and slash is a beautiful thing.  But very long fast swords such as Legacy and Aurora lessen that advantage in my mind because if others can do it, it is no longer a distinct advantage of polearms.  Not to mention the powerful albeit somewhat slower AGS and VGS.  On open ground where defensive abilities such as armor and health (think Commando heroes vs Halberdier) become a greater advantage the shorter, faster, and higher damage weapons such as Durendal and Mjolnir shine the most.
[/quote] Not to mention that all commandos get access to the best crushthrough weapons in the game in a game which blunt damage and knockdown is very much needed (at least in ragnorak and hardmode).
But to pikemen's advantage, they have long stabbing weapons with pierce damage and long swinging weapons with high cut damage which are like 2h swords but just longer and slower.

As somebody who doesn't play Pikeman classes in general, I tought you might want a somewhat neutral opinion.

I don't know why you want to be defensive with a pikeman at all. Obviously they are good at throwing and their "slasher" weapons have a higher range or can be used above the cades without harming them. In time of need I'd say it's okay to use them as defense BUT I see them as a rather offensive class due to all those facts stated above.
I see the that Halberdier is supposed to be the closest class to being the Jack-Of-All-Trades, but it also doesn't seem right to put them above or at the same shielding level as Pavise Champions, because you can oneshot quite often with a crossbow, yes. However you have to keep in mind that there is a pretty long reload time to even it out, where many good aimed throws might kill more or damage more targets. Though, I do agree that they could have the access to shields comparable to Pavise Champion. Perhaps we can put them as shielder just slightly below the efficiency of the Pavise.

Again: This is all from a comparison of the stats. I do not know about the exact availability of the equipment and took those informations out of earlier posts. Corrections are appreciated if written in a reasonable way.

Might be slightly unrelated, but I Was Playing with a shield spear combo earlier [ I actually fought with a CTS until i found an ashwood] They are actually capable of dealing with Nords effectively as long as they don't get too close, but, they still suck even though its fun.

mmm, last i played the problem with halberdier was not its shield skill but the shields it could actually bring in.

at 6 shield skill a commando class can bring in the SKS and all the house craftable shields. halberdier share that same level in shield skill yet don't have access to even some of the most basic shields like the SKS

9 shield skill on halberdier would be OP, Pavisse already seemed OP to me (armour, damage (given crossbowmen don't scale in damage) and shield)

hero classes usually specialise in a given area. the royal guard shields, marauder slashes, warden shoots. there are some exceptions to this like the legionnaire (1h and thrown) but for that class it works. giving halb 9 shield skill is a tad high. you would have an easier time arguing that the legionaire should obtain 9 shield skill to supplement its 1h weapon mindset (surprising that it doesn't as the zwei shares the same shield skill on a 2h hero???)

the best case scenario for this class within reason would be to give it access to some of the more powerful shields and leave it's shield skill alone (or buff it minimally)

just my 2 cents, back to afg.

8 shielding and access to house craftables or just access to house craftables.  Sounds reasonable.

7 shield skill is enough for hero who need shielding ONLY in emergency same as ranger. As i said before.Acces to bring some better shields(like SKS,LKS,or Dragon Kite Shield) its a good point, but please don't forget that pikeman isn't commando
