In a recent rag run we played Offshore and noticed a slight lack of peeking spots for players - to counteract that Platforms would be really useful. Thus I thought about adding some kind of additional support. If there are players with decent support (SHC/Wall/Barrel), they will not switch to anything of "lower" use like Platforms. Considering they did, it would have a negative impact on the whole team to lack either cade strength or ranged potential.
My suggestions to help improve support problems:
(Specifically for Platforms) Eventually lower Platforms' hitpoints and give players the opportunity to bring sets of them (comparable to Dep. Shield Sets)
Secondary Support
Give players the possibility to bring a main support item and additional gear. Support items could be ranked like this:
5 - Explosive Barrel / Resurrection Tome
4 - Wall Barricade / Heavy Platform / Master Surgeon Kit
3 - Short Heavy Barricade / Heavy Barricade / Field Medic Box
2 - Platform / Normal Barricade / Deployable Shield (3 Pack) / Big Ammo Crate / Surgeon's Kit / Medic Box
1 - Deployable Shield (1-2 Pack) / Small Ammo Crate / Small Medic Box
Players can choose 2 different support items of their class adding up to the value of 6. It might be a problem to spawn in with both, perhaps exchanging one of the gear slots would be an option. If you don't agree with the ranking of the items, suggest some reasoned changes.
Examples: Wall Cade + Platform; SHC + HC; Normal Barricade + Dep. Shield (3 Pack)
Support Sharing
Let players add their own support items to an item pool the whole server has access to. It would work like this:
Player 1 owns Barrel, Wall and SHC
Player 2 owns SHC and Platform
Player 3 owns nothing (decent)
Now Player 1 and 2 are bringing a barrel and an SHC. They still own more support items, which they can't use at the same time. Thus they're adding a Wall, Platform and SHC to some kind of shared armory, which Player 3 can access and draw his support from, depending on what's required. It would be similar to lending items via house trading, just that it's more "public" and helps the team directly. Implementing might be problematic nontheless.
