The Nord Invasion Etiquette Guide
Honour is for heroes. Glitching is for losers!
- Anoymous person who is awesome
So, you're curious to why would someone even write a guide about gaming Etiquette when 90% of individuals around the internet just troll around with their flower baskets and flame hammers.
This isn't your typical multiplayer game mod, you're in a co-operative game that emphasizes teamwork within fellow players, and where your enemy is armed with a 3-watt light bulb with no intellect whatsoever to jump over a branch. Co-op games tends to be nifty about competitive spirit.
This guide is to inform players about the what's and what-nots when playing in this mod. As a human-vs-bots match, it is inevitable people will use Glitching to have an upper hand on winning a match, which in this case, the mod isn't suited for those with such egos, glitchers aren't well-liked by the community, for various reasons. Since the players are working together, they have to get along at some point to utilize teamwork that is the emphasis of this mod. Starting a flame war wont do anyone good and prevents them from concentrating on the fight, which in this case, force players to die easily to such trivial problems.
No Glitching
Bots have no wit or a brain, they just charge at you at the nearest given opportunity, and will only be stopped by a fence. Naturally, their lack of intelligence allows them to be abused in unimaginative ways. Glitching is the solution to a cheap victory, players can just pick off bots like a trapshoot (which isn't a challenge and not for the purpose of this mod), and usually it happens most players are dead which the surviving few resort to glitching(which wastes everyone's time, disrespecting others). or for the fact that generally you don't care about others (which makes you stand out more as a dick)
The guidelines of determining a glitch:
- It's a place where bots cannot get into
- It's a place where bots cannot reach you in melee
- When specific bots can only touch you (like pikemen)
- Bots get stuck in a place deliberately trapped by a player and killed by the player(which you get experience + gold from it)
The guidelines of determining a legal exploit(where bots can kill you or you don't benefit from it):
- Reachable areas from bots (such as a somewhat large rock)
- Barricades which bots can destroy and reach you
- Bots suiciding and you do not get the exp
- Starting waves that can at least touch you (At least a weapon range of 70)
- Fencing hopping is alright if the bots can actually reach you on both sides
As long as you're on a steep cliff that bots can bop a hit or two on you, you're fine.
When you're dead and only a few had survived, encourage them to fight on with honour, boost their spirits up so they can fight better, and may even win the next round for the team to spawn.
The creation of multiple alts with the intention of using them for gold is not allowed in NordInvasion: it is determined a glitch. Any player found with more than a reasonable number of characters is examined closely and normally banned on sight.
Remember that admins and even members in this mod shun the idea of glitching. Anyone caught glitching will be warned, and subsequent glitching will lead to more serious consequences(such as reset characters and banning).
If you want to be a stubborn idiot and challenge the admin, you will be permanently BANNED.
Respect Every Player(REP)
A game that emphasizes a lot of teamwork would need the co-operation of players to unite against the impending Nord horde. There however, might be differences among players that not everyone would not agree to. This might be the internet, but you're playing together as a team, and insulting someone could easily label you as a troll.
- Respect everyone, regardless of their race, religion, nationality, age, gender, no discrimination
- Encourage teamwork among players but do not dictate or force them to work together
- Swearing is alright, as long as it is to yourself or the bots, but strictly not to others
- Do not call people noobs, you were once a noob too when you have started out
- Do not destroy people's barricades or equipment, if the team dies to a lack of utilities, they will blame you for it
- Do not spam the chat with irrelevant stuff, people cant see a wall of text when fighting
- Do not tell people to leave a server because you want fewer players. These are public servers and everyone can play.
- Do not bootlick/suckup to admins for uber weapons, they don't like it
- Do not encourage trolls
- Do not ask players to die. This is a kickable/reportable offence.
- Do not try to wipe the team by repeatedly killing last or spaming tomes to spawn wraiths
- Do not try to kill other players using barrels
- And lastly, be polite to everyone
I'll admit that I had exerted some of these above. :-\ But as long as one apologies or the least admit a mistake made on their account, everyone should get along just fine.
Inactive on servers
Being inactive on a server and leeching xp is hated by all players. If you are afk on purpose or for long periods of time, your team will not exactly enjoy your presence. It is rude and unfair to your to be afk and not help, while others are working hard to pass the waves and get xp. This includes when you are eating! We fully appreciate that everyone must eat, but take a break, enjoy your food and don't stand afk on a server.
Leeching:
Leeching consists of not actively contributing to resist the Nord Invasion. It doesn't matter what class you are or what level, you MUST, in a reasonable way, contribute to help the team. This is a subjective and objective test. The key matter here will be what was reasonable for you given your level and experience.
-There is no tolerance for leeching!
- If you are afk, an admin can and will kick you from the game.
- When you are afk it is considered leeching, it is also detrimental to the team. For this you can be kicked or reported.
- If you say you will be afk for a few mins or something along those lines, be courteous to others and just leave. This also applies to admins. Admins may join and still kick you if players report you on IRC, even after you have said this.
- Players can report you for being afk at any time, and if you are found guilty your punishment is at the discretion of the development team.
House Recruiting
Please do not post a recruitment message for any house more than once per round. This is more than enough! Let your skills as a player speak out for your house, not incessant spam!
And remember, these also applies to the warnings above. You will be banned if you're a constant troublemaker or stomped on an admin's birthday cake.
If any forum members or admins around have a different opinion about my guide or have something to add on, do reply in this thread.
