Improving weapons and armours

I thought about a system where you can improve your normal weapons like this:

you have a regular Steel Sword....so you can iprove it like this:
-Normal Steel Sword
-Sharped Steel Sword
-(need name^^) Steel Sword

And the same with armour:
-Normal Vaegir Armour
-Hardened Vaegir Armour
-(need name again^^) Vaegir Armour

If you want to improve weapons you must be blacksmith and for armor armorsmith.
And I think it would be much better if you would need Hardmode items to upgrade the stuff.

Please tell me what you think about it =D

I like the idea but it is not really feasible. It would require the programming of every single variation and we simply have too many other things to do at the moment.
