Well the Stamford sword is a very simple looking sword to begin with, if anything it would be better with a new name and a new model.
Saying that, I have no ideas as far as all that goes.

It's not a legendary or anything, 500k craftable
 It'd try to keep it simple, not too much gold, viking style. More detail wouldn't go amiss

The idea of giving a crossbowman more "italian" swords has my full support. Actually I've tried to make one and here is a result:
