Gomer was recently perma banned in an overly harsh punishment for implementing hard mode on a server. This is an unfair punishment and without warning, especially given that he was permanently banned not just from the forums but the mod as well. He gave back to the mod by pointing out glitches and exploits on maps to devs as well as creating new maps for the community.

The only warning or punishment he had received before this was a first time warning for spamming, the main reason he was the record holder for most smites. A ban was not needed or deserved for something like this. Something like this should not have happened since devs apparently did not want hard mode put on servers yet. The only reason given to Gomer or anyone was the fact that it was not done yet.

Worm states

Hardmode is currently being worked heavily on and is not ready for live servers just yet. So please don't host servers with it. 

Gomer believed he meant that no public servers would be allowed to host hard mode. However the server that was hosting hard mode was private and was meant to bug test and try out.

Gomer has consistently broken rules and received numerous official warnings. We believe his conduct led him and others to play on a server designed for abuse and player exploiting. There are strict server guidelines for a reason and these are CLEARLY explained on the forum. The reason only Gomer has been banned is due to his culmination of previous warnings and this act. The other players present are also on their final strike and if reported again will also be permanently banned.

We take player exploiting very seriously, more so when a server is specifically running to break those rules and encourage other players to cheat. These are shut down and have their status permanently revoked, whilst players on there will have their stats reset.

The best way to ensure your character does not get reset is by playing on official verified servers which do not use a password, does not have custom maps and is running the latest version of the mod.
