Heavy INF or Heavy xbow?
#11
Heavy Xbow is a standard militia sharpshooter that can deal a good amount of dmg if headshotting a Nord. The Man at Arms is a lot better and you get the short espada and a heavy xbow that kills a lot more higher tier nords.IMO go for the xbow.Tier 2 Craftable for xbow is 35 armor btw while the t3 one is 40 armor.

Crossbowmen is remarkably fun to play, now that I can actually one hit-kill stuff.

I got 49 kills in a very short time span at one point when defending a long narrow bridge that partially was underwater at one point.

Only complaint is when I find a very good position to shoot from (like atop of a tower over a narrow chokepoint) and I'm getting a nice killing streak, and then the entire team moves up and I stop getting support xp.

Also, I've found that I can go through 50 bolts VERY fast. Even though my WPF is 30 higher with one-handed weapons, I've found a solid battle axe is much better than a shield+sword because 1. it gives me an extra 50 bolts so I don't constantly have to refill ammo, plus, powerful long weapons are good to use when you're not right on the front line, but a few yards behind several powerful infantrymen who are taking the focus off of you and letting you get lots of easy kills.

Umm, yes?
1. Rangers always get the most XPs (they kill the most nords)
2. When soloing, there is a need of skills (when you play as a sniper or a pikeman there is no such a need- there is no any hard thing to keep running and shooting/throwing at the same time, I tried)  BTW I'm fed up with seeing that 95% of players play ranged classes (oh! we've got next proof!- people always choose the easiest way) and I want to vomit when I see all these noskills (not everyone but majority)  and redshirts with expensive eq shooting and thinking that they're best in the universe because they just headshot dozens of bots

you clearly does not see the details concerning the classes, or kiting for that sake, so i wont bother with explaining, all i can say is that apparently you think its hard to play commando, its not harder then anything else. in fact commandoes is stronger then most other classes later in the game, but everything is specialised later in the game so you cant really say wich class is the hardest

Aha. Not mentioning, of course, the amount of skill it takes to do the commandos most important tasks, shielding and slashing. I mean, do people even know how much of an effort it is to hold RMB for 3 seconds, and then press T?!
Or worse, having to set your options to attack by movement key, then having to move forward once, and then REPEATEDLY clicking LMB!!!1!!

For serious, get a break, none of the classes in NI are 'hard'. They are all made to rack up hundreds of kills before dieing once. Also, I don't know how much where you usually hang around, I can't think of a place I've been in this mod with "these noskills and redshirts with expensive eq shoot{ing} and think{ing} that they're best in the universe because they just headshot dozens of bots".
But then again, moaning about a lot of stuff, and just saying random things (which are mostly incorrect) might make people react in such a way.

Um you do realize ranged get HS all the time trying to shoot enemies, not to mention having to know maps, getting lucky and you have to aim *gasp* to get a headshot. Please dont rage on other classes cause you dont like them. I have them all and I know from experience as a archer you dont get 100 kills unskilled.

Rangers kill the most of Nords so it's hard to level the infantry as quickly as ranged classes. Wink

I agree with Unknown_Soldier and the rest that ranged classes take skill. Kiting isn't easy and being able to land headshots consistently doesn't come without practice. But if you were to compare infantry kiting to ranged kiting, infantry kiting is next to impossible on higher levels of difficulty. But kiting isn't really the point in a team game (though kiting with either infantry and ranged take considerable skill of different types). Also there aren't 95 percent ranged, but that was blatant exaggeration.

I will disagree with Maroon's post. Behind a shield wall, every class's task is made easier. If you want ridiculous oversimplification of roles, a ranged player's role can be described as "sit and shoot at the spot in front of the shielders where the nords will appear while making minor aiming adjustments" -- a task I would say is only slightly more difficult than repeatedly pressing the LMB. But of course, that's an oversimplification and it makes the ranged classes sound stupid.

There is some truth in what Khalidov says though. Commandos sacrifice their attack potential so as to shield for the team, and this results in slower experience and gold gain for them (as opposed to slashers and ranged classes who kill for the most part). There are other roles that sacrifice their own gain for the benefit of the team (such as the people who act as medics and juggle items). In this way, infantry can be perceived as a "difficult" class.

I'm going to go on even more of rant now. Honestly, at this stage of nordinvasion, it isn't difficult to level up any class as there are high level players who can carry low levels through the waves. Attaining tier 4 and becoming a good player are two very different things though. I believe players should develop a team-oriented mindset if they wish to be successful (and avoid resentment*) in higher difficulties. There are many things players can educate themselves in in order to become better players overall that don't relate to playing a specific class. The difference between a good player and a mediocre player is that the good player actively finds things to do that will benefit the team both during and between waves while the mediocre player sits idle between waves. If you're only useful for pressing the LMB to slash, or are sitting shielding while alt-tabbed, then you may as well be replaced by a robot.

Good players should think on their feet, and should be willing to sacrifice short term benefit for long term gain. Sure you'll miss out on a many many kills and lots of potential experience and gold if you go back and shuffle the tomes and barricades, but the team might murder Odin because of it. Playing medic will net you zero kills, but you allow the team to focus on killing nords without worrying too much about dying. Helping to set up barricades, and smartly placing barricades also benefits the team by making runs progress much more smoothly, allowing for more runs overall and greater net benefit. It gets annoying when players just sit around between waves when barricades need to be set and the person saving last is the only one who does saving and cading. There are many things that players can do to increase efficiency and success rate of runs, and these are things newer players (as well as some older ones) need to learn to do. /rant

*Resentment builds when players who do only the bare minimum to be helpful to the team and are able to get the same chance at a drop as those who worked hard as a team to achieve a successful run.

P.S. That was really long and I'm not sure if there was any point. If there was any hint of coherence in this post, I do apologize. I wrote it late at night. I hope you enjoyed reading this wall of text as much as I enjoyed writing it. What the hell am I doing with my life?
