Houses (Player Guilds)

The next major milestone we are hoping to reach is the next step towards having a campaign in place. This is the player houses, which is a way to allow players to group up and achieve combined goals.

To start with, we are just focusing on the basic structure of the Houses, and any wants / limitations that you guys would want to see. So far we have the following in mind:
  • Creating a house is expensive, and will require at least 2000fp (there are some quests in the works which should allow faster gathering of FP)
  • A House must have a minimum of at least 2 members, a Leader and a Captain. The leader is responsible for the over all policies/administration/politics for their house, where as the Captain is responsible for the house army / military actions. Please note: these features will not be included in the initial release of the House system
  • Players can recruit other players at a fixed cost, of around 500gp per invite (to stop spamming etc.)
  • Players can be assigned to an internal heirarchy, aka recruit/soldier/clerk etc.
  • Each House will have a bank, where players can donate, this will be where the house taxes among other purchases made by the house are drawn from.
  • Each house will have to pay 100gp in tax per day (this is not a pointless way to remove money from the economy, it will feed back into the grand campaign in what should be an interesting gameplay mechanic, which we arent revealing at the moment
  • If you go within -1000gp of debt, the house will automatically disolve and anything it owned will be permanently removed!

Here are some possible features which I've thought about maybe adding:
  • Playing on a server with your guild friends could give you a buff? either WPF? XP? etc.
  • House quests have been mentioned before, and would be interesting
  • Selectable Banner for use in game by all your House

So you're probably wondering on what the point of creating a house is right? Well with Swadia in ruins and the need for rebuilding, Houses will be granted land and/or able to purchase land from the king. Land is the prerequisite to owning houses/buildings/villages etc. and most importantly of all: Castles!

These will all provide strategic roles in the over arching campaign, as in, the land you own/buy will be viewable on a map, and may well be the target for a Nord attack where you could possibly lose everything unless you fight to defend it!

For bonuses I have two suggestions.

The first is assist XP or damage bonus when fighting together. The assist XP would be you fight with your housemates often and therefore you understand their fighting style better so learn more from them. The damage bonus would be from being used to fighting together and being more efficient when working together. Not a big bonus, but the more people who are on at one time for a house, the more the bonus becomes.

The second would be artifacts. They would be obtained through quests through the king or crafted by a guild together with the combination of an alchemist, a blacksmith and and armorer. These artifacts could give a bonus to certain types of weapons, loot, more money, or other benefits.

An addition to houses could be house quests. These quests would grant faction points to everyone in the guild and money to the guild coffers. Eventually the guild will be able to earn artifacts through the quests.

Another thing is Houses should have levels like people. There should be a set evolving order so everything has to be unlocked and you don't get all bonuses right at once.

Ahh I love the idea of house experience, maybe something like 'Reputation' or 'Kings Favor' or something like that? That can then be earned from the house activities such as quests etc.

Also the artifacting sounds awesome, maybe they can be used to provide boosts to buildings/villages in your land? (but as you said, incredibly difficult to earn/acquire)

I think King's favor sounds good because the king controls everything.

Maybe artifacts should affect non-skill things like you said.
My ideas are
  • Chance to craft two items instead of one
  • Boost to gold produced in your land
  • Boost to items produced in your land
  • Boost to growth rate in your lands
  • Items in store cost less
  • Better chance of finding loot
  • More money from killing people
  • Faster build time for buildings
  • Crafted items have a % boost to stats/li]
    • [li]Crafting items takes less time
    I think it should all be economical benefits.

    Maybe houses could have a research system too. Just an idea.

I think there should be house to house warfare, too. Like wargames in WoW- you can arrange a battle against another house. Winner gets exp or something.

Ok guys, can you keep it civilized please. This thread is for feedback and ideas relating to the topic in hand, which is the House system. People should be able to express their ideas without people behaving immaturely. Any feedback which is not constructive and is generally immature will be deleted as it just clutters up the thread and does no-one any favours.

Back to the topic:

PvP or HvH is something i've thought about, obviously the problem being they will need to be heavily organised/scripted and it would be extremely difficult to make dynamic using the current modding system. However this doesn't mean we couldn't do monthly tournaments to win favor with the king, but they would have to most likely be at set times for the king to preside over Wink
