I agree with you that RG is a really boring class, even tho I think it can't be replaced with cades. The RG duty is not only blocking the nords, but getting the aggro from ranged so your team is free to move (just imgaine playing Hypers Hell withour RG). It also opens options for slashers which do important stuns and damage on the cades.
That's why I think it's more like a "support" class. I like the idea of Corndog, where RG gives any kind of area buff, with that it could be more usefull and contributing to the run.
