This one I feel like I dropped the ball on as I forgot to mention the main advantage If it was not obvious over doing a "you just get stat and skill points as you level and you get to allocate them as you wish?".
For doing it my way you only need to make 8 classes then have all items for all possible outcomes. With a point system like native or what's been suggested here, If you want a bit more hp or what that requires making a new class altogether.
Look at TF2 vs Overwatch for example. Tf2 gives you 9 classes as a base then allows you to give custom stats to them using different items. Compare this with overwatch and well If you like one hero but what It to be a little bit different for some runs you need to play a fully new hero. This makes no logical sense given classes (people) are capable of well changing a bit.
Given unlike TF2 Ni2 would have weapons + armour that would affect stats so the possible outcomes would be enough for any normal person to be happy anyway.
